Endoscopy for Animals

Endoscopy for animals – is a way to check certain internal fistular organs and natural cavities with the help of an endoscope (a special device consisting of flexible or rigid metal tubes with a lighting system. The image from a video camera in the endoscope is passed to the monitor screen).

In our clinic we use duodenoscopy - one of the types of endoscopic examination methods which allows to inspect the esophagus (food pipe), stomach, duodenum using a flexible endoscope, which is placed through the mouth of the animal. Endoscopy enables to see visual assessment of the state the organs are in, the presence of strictures or inflammatory erosions, enthetic bodies, bleeding, tumours, and conducting targeted biopsy pathological focuses, in order to perform morphological studies and finally announcing the diagnosis.

Duodenoscopy is used for detailed study of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum in suspicion of tumours, and bleeding from these organs, gastric ulcer and 12th duodenal ulcer.

Endoscopy is performed on an empty stomach (8-12 hours without in taking any food) with an intake of internal anaesthesia.

The indications for gastrointestinal endoscopy are:

  • dysphagia;
  • regurgitation and vomiting after taking food;
  • defecation and vomiting mixed with blood;
  • suspicion of foreign body of the esophagus and stomach;
  • gastroenterocolitis;
  • neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • bleeding, etc.
